Mac Address, Part I

My transition from Windows to OS X is, I think, finally complete. Honestly, I'm still slightly surprised to find myself using a Macintosh; this is something I vowed never to do when I was in high school. But thankfully, a lot has changed in the past few years.

As far as I can recollect, the first real interaction I had with an Apple was in grade nine. I always knew they existed, but I had never used them. My experience with computers until then only went as far as your run-of-the-mill IBM clones and those monochrome Commodores we were forced to suffer with in grade school. We had a DOS machine at home that I would tinker with occasionally (Because the parents couldn't have cared less if I had killed it.) and purchased our first real PC - where 'real' means 'Windows 95'; I believe it's safe to say that that's where the PC's true mass appeal began - in 1996. So although I was no expert by the time I started high school, I was still more experienced - and thus, comfortable - with PC's.

If I remember correctly, the first time I heard the word 'Macintosh' mentioned in high school and not mean 'my favourite kind of apple' was in English. My teacher, Ms. Bleviss, asked the class if we had computers at home. Only one student, Jacqueline Sturgeon, raised her hand when we were also asked if anyone had a Mac. I didn't think much of the exchange at the time, and we moved on to other things.

And that's all for today folks. I have an Ethics tutorial to catch. Tune in next time to hear about my first encounter with a real live Macintosh and how much it sucked.

Have I posted this song already? I can't remember. I've been listening to this album again recently; it's not too bad at all.

Time of Our Lives
David Usher
From the album, Hallucinations

I once saw a man on fire
Staring out his window
Watching as the flames grew
Higher and higher
I thought that I saw him cry
Or was he only laughing?
As his laugh went rushing out

And maybe we're just like him
Maybe we're all waiting
For a moment to begin

Who of us are open?
Who of us have freedom, really?
Who of us can tell me what these
Dark days will bring?
All of us are hurting
All of us are crazy now
All of us are watching the world
As it spins

I once had a bird like you
A bird of prey
Still you're tearing at my insides
And yesterday when you flew
So far away
If you find the morning
Save a piece for me

Who of us are open?
Who of us have freedom, really?
Who of us can tell me what these
Dark days will bring?
All of us are hurting
All of us are crazy now
We're crazy now!

I smoke a cigarette
I'll eat the flesh instead
Another whiskey more or less
Or more or less
I like the drugs that sail
I love you when we fail
When we fail

I once saw a man on fire
Staring out his window
Watching as the flames grew
Higher and higher
I thought that I saw him cry
Or was he only laughing?
Laughing

Who of us are open?
Who of us have freedom, really?
Who of us can tell what these
Dark days can bring?
All of us are hurting
All of us are crazy now
We're crazy now!

All of us are hating
All of us are dreaming
All of us are watching
These times of our lives
We want it all
We want for nothing
For nothing now
