The Generation Gap
Sunday, February 5 at 10:44 p.m.
I've been to Starbucks a total of three times. They are yet another establishment who serves coffee that I do not like. Sorry, that's just the way it is.

So, if you're keeping count, I like coffee from Second Cup and Timothy's. In fact, my preferred coffee of the moment is "Noisette" from "the other Tim's". It's a very nice hazelnut blend.

Anyway... I picked up a coffee at Starbucks a few days ago, and noticed something interesting on the side. It seems that the franchise is currently running a series of quotes - "The Way I See It" - on their cups. The one on my cup was from (by?) Mary Chapin Carpenter:

The Way I See It #52

Recently I eavesdropped on a conversation between two twenty-something employees at a local Starbucks. I listened as the barista mused about his taste in music. Then the cashier asked him if he had ever heard the song "Strawberry Fields Forever." After a pause, the barista answered, "No, can't say I ever heard that one before." That's when I knew there really was such a thing as a generation gap."

Now, I don't want to besmirch Mary Chapin Carpenter - I don't even know her after all. But, having said that, I'd also like to say that I don't think much of her observation.

Not that the 'generation gap' doesn't exist. It does indeed. But its existence is, I find, more the result of ignorance than any differences that come with age. But what do I know.

Naturally, this post comes with the mentioned song.

Strawberry Fields Forever
The Beatles
From the album, Magical Mystery Tour

Let me take you down
'Cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone
But it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me

Let me take you down
'Cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever

No one I think is in my tree
I mean it must be high or low
That is you can't, you know, tune in
But it's all right
That is I think it's not too bad

Let me take you down
'Cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever

Always know sometimes think it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think I know I mean, ah yes
But it's all wrong
That is I think I disagree

Let me take you down
'Cause I'm going to strawberry fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry fields forever

Strawberry fields forever
Strawberry fields forever

And how about those Steelers, eh? Ha. Who am I kidding. I looked it up.

Hope you have a great week. No, not you. You.

Okay, fine. You too.
Nice Post.

I agree. On another note, we watched the Superbowl with some friends yesterday. And well, I thought the Steelers were the ones in the blue uniform when in fact, they were wearing the yellow. I dont know why I thought it but I was prob. thinking of the phrase 'steel blue eyes.' Anyhow, it was only toward the latter part of the game that I came to realize
my mistake. My husband had a good laugh on my acct. And yeah, I felt really silly after that for being so clueless during the whole game. So you prob. know more about U.S. football than I do.
