Birling Down, A-down White Water

I'm psyched. So much so, in fact, that I actually used the word 'psyched'. I found "The Log Driver's Waltz" on Google Video:

You can also find it on YouTube. I think their version might be a little better in quality.

And here are the lyrics:

The Log Driver's Waltz
Wade Hemsworth/Traditional

If you should ask any girl from the parish a-round
What pleases her most from her head to her toes
She'll say: I'm not sure that it's business of yours
But I do like to waltz with a log driver

For he goes birling down, a-down white water
That's where the log driver learns to step lightly
It's birling down, a down white water
A log drivers waltz pleases girls completely

When the drive's nearly over, I like to go down
To see all the lads while they work on the river
I know that come evening they'll be in the town
And we all want to waltz with a log driver

To please both my parents, I've had to give way
And dance with the doctors and merchants and lawyers
Their manners are fine, but their feet are of clay
For there's none with the style of a log driver

I've had my chances with all sorts of men
But none is so fine as my lad on the river
So when the drive's over, if he asks me again
I think I will marry my log driver

I can't even count the number of times I saw that short as a kid. And it was wonderful every time.
*grin* aw.
I saw this a million times too; and I grew up in Ohio ;-) We were big CBC fans. I actually choked up a little watching this. Thank you for posting it: I'm saving the page.
I'm old(er) now and live in Boston...the only thing I miss about Ohio is watching (and listening) to the CBC.
(Whatever happened to Allen Mc Fee?)

Glad to hear that you liked it. And thanks for the visit and the comment - they're both much appreciated.

As for Allen McFee... He was before my time. He had retired by '89 or '90.

And, I do believe that he passed away in 2000.
Song has been stuck in my head since I saw the "Oh Canada Eh" dinner show - thanks for the lyrics! Brought back wonderful memories to see the short
