Fiction by South Asian writers has become tremendously popular in the last few decades.
Authors with roots in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are winning literary prizes, and topping bestseller lists, in North America and England.
Shyam Selvadurai is a Toronto writer and editor who was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1965.
After writing two novels of his own -- "Funny Boy," and "Cinnamon Gardens" -- he's put together an anthology of stories by South Asian writers.
The result is "Storywallah! A Celebration of South Asian Fiction,"with writers from around the world. Surpisingly, it's the first collection of its kind.
The book gathers short stories by well-known authors, such as Salman Rushdie, Bharati Mukherjee, and Rohinton Mistry. And it introduces Western readers to stories by important, but lesser-known writers of South Asian descent.
